What makes finding your purpose so important?  Have you ever asked yourself why you might be roaming around the place?

I have a friend in Jamaica who lives in “Majesty Gardens”, well known as the ghetto.  He is an amazing youth worker for Fusion West Indies and he has a heart for young people not only at home but all over the world. My family invited him to come to Edmonton for Christmas and strangely enough he agreed to leave +30 and come to -30!  (He actually showed up at the airport in shorts.)  It was encouraging to have him join Fusion's Breakfast clubs and our Face 2 Face program where he really loved the youth, particularly one young man.  This young man had lots of questions and wanted to know more about what life was like in Jamaica. It's not a coincidence that they both come from backgrounds that don't seem to me to be easy or simple.  It was beautiful to see them share each other’s worlds. 

One day they gave me a gift.....As I sat at my desk, I heard a bunch of laughter and noise, only to look up and see out my office door, our tall thin youth grinning from ear to ear as my Jamaican friend, with a hockey stick in hand, was about to be given the Canadian lesson of a lifetime:  how to play street hockey! 

Can you imagine the moment? Two young men that I have come to love, from similar backgrounds yet from different countries, both looking for hope and purpose in this world.  In that moment, one gave an eternal gift to the other would change....they would remember each other’s faces even when miles would separate them.  I sat back and pondered. 

I have waited my whole life to be not just working, but living for and in moments like these. Moments where lives are changed and communities are transformed because people want to 'be the difference'.  I am still impacted by the difference it has made in one young man’s life.......I am happy to continue the journey with him.
